She's Bringing it All 'Out in the Open' by DJ McErlean-Hopson
In 2009 Andrea Cofino had a mission. She wanted to find a way to educate all ages about the struggles individuals went through in the LGBTQ community. Inspired by the beats from spoken word poetry, she created 15 monologues from 91 interviews from all over the world speaking about homophobia and transpohobia. Her main goal was to breach topics that mainstream society tends to leave out such as queer history, how there is inter-community discrimination, and much more. Thus, Out in the Open was created. In the past few weeks, we all saw the black and white, abstract posters for "Out in the Open" all over the halls and on Cafe 101 tables. It was hard not to know about this show, and from its PR it was hard not to go see it. All the seats in the Multipurpose Room were filled with people holding reserved tickets.
